Making positive impacts: Here’s how we’re supporting The Sanctuary Womens, Children and Pets Refuge

In an era where working with a conscience is more than just a fad, businesses are increasingly evaluated not only by what they provide in terms of products or services but also by how they contribute to the communities they operate within. At MWM Advisory, we take great pride in giving back to our local community because we understand the significant impact and how our help can bring aid to those in need. One of the most inspiring organisations we support regularly is The Sanctuary Women, Children and Pets Refuge on the Gold Coast.

As Founder, CEO and Social Worker of The Sanctuary, Simone Patterson has always been deeply committed to aiding the underprivileged, the disadvantaged or individuals with disabilities. Driven by this commitment, she earned her bachelor’s degree in social work and embarked on a career as a Counsellor. In addition to her counselling role, she has collaborated with various welfare organisations, engaging in case management, providing care outside of traditional settings, and participating in a wide range of other welfare activities.

The Sanctuary Women, Children and Pets Refuge is a Gold Coast not-for-profit organisation, that provides a safe haven for women, children, and their pets who are escaping domestic violence. The uniqueness of this refuge lies in its inclusive approach, recognising the importance of pets in many families and ensuring they too can find sanctuary during turbulent times. The incredible support system provided by The Sanctuary is crucial, as it addresses the multifaceted needs of those seeking refuge while making the challenging transition into new lives away from abusive environments.

Simone explains that normally, the women and children often arrive at the refuge with nothing but their clothing and some minimal items. Her team assess everyone’s needs on an individual basis and frequently works with other local charities to ensure every person, woman, child, or pet, has access to items needed.

Through our continuous support of local community organisations and charities, we are also fostering a positive workplace culture, we enhance employee morale, and we attract talent who value social responsibility. We encourage all local businesses to do the same.

So please; if you would like to be a part of creating a positive impact with the MWM Advisory team and contribute much-needed essentials to The Sanctuary, we are currently holding a donation drive for the following items:

  • Technology devices (working laptops, phones, and iPads)
  • Appliances (washing machines, fridges and bar fridges, dryers, microwaves all in good working order)
  • New toys to include in the children’s welcome packages (this helps to build excitement and help distract from the traumatic experience)
  • Food and toiletries
  • Gift vouchers
  • Fuel vouchers
  • Volunteering
