What drew you to work at MWM Advisory?
The ability to work with larger client group structures and to be mentored by some of the best minds in taxation and accounting.
Why did you become an accountant?
After running my own business for several years in the mining industry, it was time for a new challenge. Utilising my prior business knowledge, fast tracked my career in the accounting space. And it is a luxury to sleep in my own bed every night, compared to travelling around Australia on a regular basis.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced and how did you overcome it?
My first business start-up provided several difficult initial scenarios. Investing substantial funds in machinery to hit the ground running, to then realise that another company had undercut my first job. This left me without any source of income. I jumped in my ute and started travelling around Australia. Dropping into every mine site, quarry and civil worksites to hopefully try and land some work. Nearly defaulting on my mortgage repayments, I finally landed a contract with a coal mine in Gunnedah and finally my business was on its way. The lesson learnt is to never give up and keep on pushing.
What’s something that people might not know about you?
I can sing and play the guitar/piano.
The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
Never assume.
