In this series we’re spotlighting a different MWM team member each month, so you can get to know the team a little better. Say hello to Borim Choi, Accountant.
Tell us a bit about your role…
“As an Accountant at MWM Advisory, my role is to work in the business advisory team assisting clients in meeting their compliance obligations and providing analysis on their tax matters. I also work closely with staff members within MWM to get our process and workflow functioning smoothly.”
Are accountants misunderstood?
“I think they definitely are. Accountancy has changed and as a result, accountants aren’t the same as they used to be. We aren’t just lodging the tax returns and preparing financial statements anymore. We are more like business partners and advisors. We take more time to understand, care for and communicate with our clients and provide the opportunity to achieve what they desire with their business.”
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
“As an accountant and business advisor, I deal with business owners operating in many different industries. It is not a ‘one size fits all’ situation. Each piece of advice we provide must be relevant to their needs and business situation. It can be a long process to prepare and present the information, but I always feel rewarded in the end when our clients come back smiling when they see the results.”
What inspires you outside of the office?
“I enjoy sports. Tennis in particular. It give me an opportunity to clear my mind, focus on something new, and I like working on my game in order to get better. I also enjoy the opportunity sports provide to meet new people.”
What do you enjoy the most about working at MWM?
“I chose MWM because it is different from traditional accounting practices. Not just processing numbers and lodging tax returns. But seeing things from client’s perspectives and always working closely with clients to provide them what they really need. I also enjoy working with like-minded people here at MWW. We care each other and all are willing to help when I need.”
