Say hello to Undergraduate Accountant, Breeanna Wilson.

Tell us a bit about your role…
I have been in the accounting industry for just over four years now and my role tends to involve more of the behind-the-scenes groundwork to get tax returns and financial statements prepared for our clients.
In my time at MWM so far, James and the team have really encouraged my professional growth and I am starting to learn the ropes of being more involved in forward planning and more in-depth problem solving for our clients, which I really enjoy.
Are accountants misunderstood?
I think it’s the job itself that is more misunderstood than the people working it.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve come home after a long day, and my partner or friends don’t sympathise because they think I just sit down all day and file tax returns.
The work is so much more varied than just tax, and especially at MWM, where we support such a diverse range of industries.
What has been the most challenging aspect of your job?
The pandemic is the first thing that comes to mind. It was hard to see our clients dealing with so much uncertainty, while also dealing with all that uncertainty ourselves in our own lives.
It has been very rewarding though, being a solid point of contact for clients for things such as JobKeeper, Cash Flow Boost and various government grants.
It was great being able to put their minds at ease and let them know that we’d be there to help in any way that we can.
What inspires you outside of the office?
Spending time with family and friends, and just trying to be present and live a happy and exciting life.
As someone who has recently moved to the Gold Coast after growing up in regional NSW, I’m always looking for new things to do and new places to go.
What do you enjoy the most about working at MWM?
The team culture was what drew me to MWM initially, and I think it’s the main reason that I’ll be here for a long while.
I’ve grown so close with the team in such a short amount of time that it feels like I’ve been here for years.
That sense of us being a ‘family’ also flows through to the way we interact with our clients daily, and I think both the team and our clients are better off for it.
