Team member in the Spotlight – Jake Turton

In this series we’re spotlighting a different MWM team member each month, so you can get to know the team a little better.

Say hello to Accountant, Jake Turton.

“MWM Advisory has developed into an ambitious, motivating and diverse workplace. It is exciting to have joined a team with such a strong vision for inspiring its people and offering a range of services that go beyond traditional accounting and compliance.”

Tell us a bit about your role…

Every day is different in the role of an accountant at MWM. In broad terms my role at MWM is providing timely business advice and taxation compliance for businesses of all sizes and industries.

Are accountants misunderstood?

There is definitely a misconception of who and what accountants are. It has been generalised over time that accountants are ‘boring’ and ‘unrelatable’. However, I think most clients of MWM would agree this is far from the truth when describing the team at MWM. It’s a fun place to work and we really enjoy what we do.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

Business owners are tasked with navigating many complicated issues and  situations, so they rely on their accountant to help them find the best pathway through financial and taxation obligations.

The challenge for us it to always be well-informed and well-equipped to provide the best solutions when our clients turn to us for business assistance and advice.

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…..

“Surround yourself with the right people.”

What do you enjoy the most about working at MWM?

I enjoy being part of a positive team environment with like-minded people who all contribute to keeping MWM a progressive firm that stands out from others.

I also enjoy being able to contribute to a variety of different businesses, as we get to see them grow and succeed, which is very fulfilling.

Celebrate the End of Financial Year with your team and ours

The End of Financial Year (EOFY) is upon us. For business owners, like you and I, there are many moving parts to be aware of. There are yearly financial statements to create, taxes to pay, deductions to claim, and documentation to submit to the ATO.

30 June is coming – what’s your game plan?

30 June is coming – what’s your game plan?

End of Financial Year Tax Planning. While Covid-19 and the uncertain business landscape it created made planning difficult, what we can say with certainty at MWM is that in our experience those who had a plan have navigated the past two years more successfully than those who didn’t.
